How Does Radon Get Into Your House?

For those that don’t know, Radon is a radioactive gas. It emits from the natural decay of uranium that can be found in nearly all soils. Radon typically works it’s way up through the ground to the air above and into your house through cracks and other gaps in the foundation. Your house traps radon inside, where it can build up. No matter where you live your house may have a radon problem. This includes new and old houses, well-sealed and drafty, and houses with or without basements.

The radon emitting from soil gas is the main cause of radon problems. Occasionally radon enters the house through well water. In a small amount of houses, the building materials can give off radon, too. Building materials though, almost never cause radon problems by themselves.
