Do you constantly get a runny nose and the sniffles. Do you get frequent headaches and chest congestion. It might not be that cold you though you had but instead the cause may be the poor air quality in your house.
New houses are filled with synthetic materials, and some of them can literally make you sick. Its not always that Black Mold you hear about. Plywood, particleboard, and other manufactured woods emit formaldehyde. Some stone used in concrete can release radon. Certain fiberglass insulation has the ability cause lung cancer in the same way that asbestos does. Even your carpeting can make you feel down.
What the solution? Whether you are building a new house or remodeling an old home you should follow three key principles:
Remove the items that emit toxic fumes. This is no easy matter, because everything from the floor to the roofing may contain harmful chemicals.
There are some things that just can’t be eliminated, but you can still protect yourself. Use sealants or foilbacked drywall to separate living quarters from materials that contain harmful substances.
A filtered ventilation system may be the only way to insure that the air we bring indoors is clean.
